Making Waves<br />
I like the beach when a strong wind is blowing,<br />
For the wind blows the waves, which keep growing and growing.<br />
The wind moves the water at the top of the sea,<br />
Bringing high jumping waves to the beach just for me.<br />
Sometimes I wish that the wind would blow faster,<br />
But not hard enough to cause a disaster.<br />
For big storms and high winds, like a hurricane's force<br />
Will create an impossible obstacle course.</div>

When things pollute our lovely seas<br />
Do turtles shudder? Do dolphins sneeze?<br />
Do whales blow harder when they find<br />
An oil spill creeping close behind?<br />
When plastic wraps a small starfish,<br />
Does it twirl and swirl and flail and swish?<br />
And when those factories dump their waste<br />
Do lobsters really like the taste?<br />
Do sea snakes wonder as they roam<br />
Why people still pollute their home?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-16611098551493296202011-06-08T00:47:00.001-07:002011-06-08T00:48:54.578-07:00Haley's Reading Is the Sea Really Blue?<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><a href="http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_download_shared_file&blog&file_id=f_770766854&shared_name=q1uyaq27h3" target="_blank">Haley.mp3</a><object align="middle" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="https://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" height="52" id="player_v04" width="364"><param value='sameDomain' name='allowScriptAccess'/><param value='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=q1uyaq27h3%26node=f_770766854' name='movie'/><param value='high' name='quality'/><param value='#ffffff' name='bgcolor'/><param value='transparent' name='wmode'/><embed pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' allowScriptAccess='sameDomain' align='middle' name='player_v04' height='52' width='364' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' src='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=q1uyaq27h3%26node=f_770766854' wmode='transparent'/></object></div><br />

<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Tsunamis (Also called Tidal Waves)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
A tsunami's a series of huge vicious waves,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
That can cause great destruction when the sea misbehaves.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
They're not caused by wind, as other waves are.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
How these monsters begin is much more bizarre.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
A very strong earthquake happens under the seas,</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Which can send out long waves past the beach and the trees.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
The wave carries on, taking things in its path.</div>

Coral Reefs<br />
Under warm waves where children are swimming<br />
A magnificent structure is growing and brimming.<br />
Reef sharks and sponges and crabs call it home.<br />
It's the place where some sea snakes and shrimp like to roam.<br />
<br />
A reef is a shelter where sea creatures connect.<br />
It took millions and millions of years to erect.<br />
Tiny creatures called corals, live together, entwined.<br />
When they die they leave hard, stony limestone behind.<br />
Living corals latch on and the reef grows and grows.<br />
It's a glorious home for the creatures below.<br />
<br />
A reef is a rainforest under the sea,<br />
Where groupers and turtles and clams like to be.<br />
But coral is fragile. We must treat it with care.<br />
Don't pollute it or touch it when you're swimming down there.</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-27892714744704349232011-06-07T23:55:00.001-07:002011-06-07T23:58:44.114-07:00Ewa's Reading On the Move<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><a href="http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_download_shared_file&blog&file_id=f_770728052&shared_name=en3fs9sa9r" target="_blank">Ewa.mp3</a><object align="middle" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="https://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" height="52" id="player_v04" width="364"><param value='sameDomain' name='allowScriptAccess'/><param value='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=en3fs9sa9r%26node=f_770728052' name='movie'/><param value='high' name='quality'/><param value='#ffffff' name='bgcolor'/><param value='transparent' name='wmode'/><embed pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' allowScriptAccess='sameDomain' align='middle' name='player_v04' height='52' width='364' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' src='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=en3fs9sa9r%26node=f_770728052' wmode='transparent'/></object></div>On the Move<br />
Why do whales travel far?<br />
Aren't they happy where they are?<br />
I guess in winter when it's cold<br />
They migrate south, or so I'm told.<br />
I think the hungry whales conclude<br />
That in warm waters there's more food.<br />
I know another crucial reason<br />
Why whales go south to spend the season.<br />
Southern seas are warm and nice,<br />
And better for their calves than ice.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-59019110409337607232011-06-07T13:58:00.001-07:002011-06-08T00:39:26.323-07:00Cade's Reading Tsunamis<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><a href="http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_download_shared_file&blog&file_id=f_770155150&shared_name=0i3miruluf" target="_blank">Cade.mp3</a><object align="middle" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="https://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" height="52" id="player_v04" width="364"><param value='sameDomain' name='allowScriptAccess'/><param value='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=0i3miruluf%26node=f_770155150' name='movie'/><param value='high' name='quality'/><param value='#ffffff' name='bgcolor'/><param value='transparent' name='wmode'/><embed pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' allowScriptAccess='sameDomain' align='middle' name='player_v04' height='52' width='364' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' src='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=0i3miruluf%26node=f_770155150' wmode='transparent'/></object></div>Tsunamis (Also called Tidal Waves)<br />
A tsunami's a series of huge vicious waves,<br />
That can cause great destruction when the sea misbehaves.<br />
They're not caused by wind, as other waves are.<br />
How these monsters begin is much more bizarre.<br />
A very strong earthquake happens under the seas,<br />
Which can send out long waves past the beach and the trees.<br />
The wave carries on, taking things in its path.<br />
Then returns to the sea filled with muscle and wrath.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-45006262915613738602011-05-31T14:04:00.000-07:002011-05-31T14:04:01.698-07:00Rock SkippingRock Skipping<br />

My favorite place is anywhere because all the beaches have flat rocks. But sometimes nobody could find any. I might ask my Dad if he could take me out the road, so he could teach me how to make throw it hard. So I could make it farther then my whole class.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-45728092544035751142011-05-31T14:00:00.000-07:002011-05-31T14:00:07.666-07:00Stormy Weekend on the LituyaStormy Gray Wet Weekend<br />
by Cade<br />
I went out there. Then I had to ride the Lituya to Ketchikan in the storm at 1:30 today. And it looked foggy today and very wet. So I have to ride the ferry in this storm today. I was going by the nose (bow) of the boat. Up and down . We are wabbling in the boat. It feels like it's going to tip over on the boat.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-25614908322451175232011-05-31T13:49:00.000-07:002011-05-31T14:13:51.399-07:00How to Delay your BedtimeHow to Delay your Bedtime inspired by <a href="http://www.gigglepoetry.com/poetrytheater/delaybedtime.html">Bruce Lansky</a><br />

Why Salt?<br />
As water flows in rivers, it swirls and twirls and vaults.<br />
'Round riverbeds and boulders, it gathers bits of salt.<br />
The slightly salty rivers flow to the sea below,<br />
And there the salty water waits, moving to and fro.<br />
The hot sun shines. Aha, a caper!<br />
It steals the water, turns it to vapor.<br />
But salt is heavy, and it remains.<br />
And that's the salt the sea contains.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09317519700497193745noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815897071384623455.post-20247956554202119272011-05-10T18:49:00.001-07:002011-06-08T00:48:26.945-07:00Frieda's Reading Is the Sea Really Blue?<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><a href="http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_download_shared_file&blog&file_id=f_734608908&shared_name=fc8d8k0cyt" target="_blank">Friedas.mp3</a><object align="middle" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="https://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" height="52" id="player_v04" width="364"><param value='sameDomain' name='allowScriptAccess'/><param value='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=fc8d8k0cyt%26node=f_734608908' name='movie'/><param value='high' name='quality'/><param value='#ffffff' name='bgcolor'/><param value='transparent' name='wmode'/><embed pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' allowScriptAccess='sameDomain' align='middle' name='player_v04' height='52' width='364' bgcolor='#ffffff' quality='high' src='http://www.box.net//static/flash/mp3player_player.swf?playlistURL=http://www.box.net/index.php?rm=box_v2_mp3_player_shared%26_playlist%26shared_name=fc8d8k0cyt%26node=f_734608908' wmode='transparent'/></object><br />

The Hurricane<br />
A hurricane without the sea would be a tiny storm,<br />
For hurricanes can't gather strength without a sea that's warm.<br />
This storm is strange. It's backward spin is very hard to enter,<br />
But if you do, you'll find an eye that's peaceful at the center.<br />
To be called a proper hurricane, the wind must spin and blow<br />
At 74 miles an hour. Sometimes this storm can grow<br />
Into a mighty monster with fierce torrential rains<br />
That rips the trees and cracks the sky and breaks the windowpanes.<br />
